We will open the first segment of the show with the Arbery Family members’ perspectives on the trial and update our listeners about recent developments in the Murder Trial of the McMichaels and Bryan. We will discuss what happened during the fifth week of the trial with the murder trial of the young Black man who was chased and shot to death by three White men for “jogging while Black.” We will discuss the presence on Thursday, November 18th of 700 Black Pastors who came to the Glynn County Courthouse in response to Defense Attorney Gough motion for the exclusion of Black Pastors from presence in the Courtroom. He also had again attacked the presence of the Transformative Justice Coalition on the Courthouse grounds. Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr., joined Rev. Al Sharpton, Attorney Ben Crump, Black Voters Matter, Repairers of the Breach and the Transformative Justice Coalition in the Call for Black Pastors & Allies to come to Brunswick in defiance of Attorney Gough’s statements and to support the Arbery Family. A highlight of the week was the large #JusticeForAhmaud Community March which drew hundreds of participants. Rev Jesse Jackson led the March for the last 7 blocks on the return to the Courthouse.
That Friday was consumed by attorney arguments over the proposed jury instructions. On Monday, November 22, closing statements were presented to the jury first by the State and then by each of the defendants. It is expected that the Prosecution will open Tuesday’s proceedings with their closing statement which will be followed by the Judge’s instructions to the Jury. The jury will begin its deliberations on Tuesday afternoon.
Attorney Daryl Jones and our guests will analyze the various legal arguments of the Prosecution and the Defense.
We will discuss TJC’s, Repairers of the Breach and Partners plans for a major 8:00 AM Interfaith and Interracial Prayer Service on Wednesday, November 24th. Our gratitude to Rev. Barber who conceived this idea of the Prayer Service. During the show, he will share his insights on this Service.
Please invite your friends to listen live at WOL 1450 AM in the Greater DC Metro Region, and nationwide and globally on the Internet at WOLDCNEWS.com and BarbaraArnwine.com. Listeners can call in with questions at 800-450-7876.
Please note, during the show there are 3 hard stop commercial breaks at 12:13 AM Eastern Time, 12:28 AM ET and 12:43 AM ET. We will stop all guests from speaking right before each break.
SHOW DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND
The topic of our show is “Live from Brunswick, Georgia! Closing Arguments & Jury to Deliberate, TJC’s and Partners’ Sixth Week of Acton!
On October 18th, the trial of the McMichaels and Bryan started in Brunswick, Georgia. It is undisputed that these three White men chased Ahmaud Arbery in their vehicles with rifles and guns through their predominantly White neighborhood. After being pursued and threatened by these vigilantes, Ahmaud Arbery was shot to death. Compounding this horrific action was the failure by the County Prosecutor to pursue criminal action against the killers based on personal relationships. Indeed, without the courageous and persistent actions of the Arbery Family, especially Marcus Arbery, Ahmaud’s father, there would never have been a release of the video of the chase and slaying, nor charges brought against these killers.
The Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) with the support of the Arbery Family and our Partners is sponsoring an unprecedented Justice for Ahmaud Arbery Weeks of Action Campaign, October 17-until the end of the Trial in November, in Brunswick, Georgia, in support of the Arbery Family, to make sure the eyes of the nation are following the trial, and to demand justice. TJC initially brought over 100 activists from around the nation by bus, provided rooms & meals for all to participate in person in Brunswick to help support the Arbery Family. In the following weeks, TJC and the Arbery Family have continued to sponsor daily court watches. during our third week we welcomed dozens of supporters back from around the nation and many new first time attendees from Georgia.
Our Fourth Week of Action included a press conference by Rev. Dr. William Barber, II. Rev Barber led a Spirited #JusticeForAhmaud Community March. The following Fifth Week of Action Rev. Jesse Jackson joined us for the entire week. This set off another tantrum by Defense Attorney Gough who moved for a mistrial and filed a written motion to ban Rev. Jackson and high profile ministers from the courtroom. Again, the Judge denied the motion.
That Thursday, TJC, Black Voters Matter, Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Repairers of the Breach joined in calling for a Black Pastors #JusticeForAhmaud Week of Action. We were pleased that Pastors responded in mass the next week and joined our weekly vigils and actions in addition to 700 attending the Rally orchestrated by Rev. Al Sharpton.
Still, the highlight of the week was the large #JusticeForAhmaud Community Watch joined by hundreds which Rev. Jackson led at the end as we returned to the Courthouse.
TJC’s objectives are to comfort the Arbery Family during this time of crisis and to keep the eyes of the nation fixed on this trial. We will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Arbery Family through the issuance of a verdict by the Jury.
Lastly, we will provide an update about the Freedom to Vote Act and our efforts to combat the epidemic of voter suppression in our nation.
Our show will provide an overview of these critical issues and their impact on the national fight against voter suppression and the fight for racial justice.
