This Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time, entitled, “Staying Woke Through a Cultural Revolution: Florida’s Rolling Protest To Learn and Teach.”

The Florida NAACP has issued a Travel Advisory for Black Americans to not travel to the State of Florida.  The Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, and the State Legislature has implemented a stream of culturally debilitating measures to ban books that teach diversity, equity, and inclusion; to defund post secondary schools from teaching and practicing inclusionary practices; and to restrict the teaching of accurate and complete United States History.

The Florida government’s actions stand to impose a significant mental health impact on the targeted communities.   This Igniting Change show will feature Radio Show Co-Hosts and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders Attorneys Barbara Arnwine, Esq. and Daryl Jones, Esq. and special guests Subromonianpillai Teal, LCSW-C and Co-Founder of Leading By Example, a Behavioral Health Services entity, to discuss mental health awareness month and, specifically, the mental health impact of racism, discrimination and misogyny as it relates to the impact of Florida’s discriminatory legislation on the impacted communities.

The first two segments of the show will feature Mr. Teal discussing the mental health aspects of discrimination and government sponsored de-valuation.  The first half will also focus on recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month.  Mr. Teal will discuss the impact that discriminatory laws have on targeted people.  He will explain the practical effects of enacting legislation that de-values the self worth of historically discriminated against groups.  Mr. Teal will also discuss the best practices for teens, young adults and adults to respond to the denial of accurate black history from being taught to effected people.

The second half of the show will feature Mr. Donald Hart, Florida NAACP State Vice President.  Mr. Hart will speak regarding the National NAACP announcement of the Travel Ban against the State of Florida due to its creating an unsafe environment for Black people.  VP Hart will also speak regarding the Rolling Protest set for June 18 – June 23 protesting the criminalization of teaching African American History; the Banning of Books regarding Black American Studies from schools and other restrictive measures placed on Florida residents.

These are the issues we will cover during this show.

Be sure to invite your friends to listen live at WOL 1450 AM in the Greater DC Metro Region, and nationwide and globally on the Internet at WOLDCNEWS.com and BarbaraArnwine.com.  Listeners can call in with questions at 800-450-7876.
