On the Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, September 20th, 2022, entitled “LIVE from Atlanta, Georgia: HBCU Students Lead 184-Mile ‘Soles of Freedom’ Voter Education, Mobilization, and Registration Initiative March from Albany to Atlanta”, Radio Show Co-Hosts and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders Attorneys Barbara Arnwine and Daryl Jones will be live from Atlanta, Georgia with guests DeAndré Gates, Clarence Adarian Fambro, and Elbert Solomon.

Soles of Freedom is a youth-based initiative to create awareness around intergenerational issues and mobilize voters for political elections. The goal is to ensure that the rights and freedoms promised by elected officials are kept beyond election day. Since Friday, September 16th, the “Soles of Freedom” campaign was launched by supporting voter registration efforts of other organizations of Albany State University. On Saturday, September 17th, there was a kick-off in Americus, GA. On September 18th, they uplifted the action of their movement family of the students at Fort Valley State University and held a Mass Meeting in Barnesville, GA. On Monday, September 19th, Transformative Justice Coalition Co-Leaders Barbara Arnwine and Daryl Jones keynote the community rally that was held in the City of Griffin in Spalding County which have been hotbeds of targeted racial voter suppression in Georgia. The event was fantastic and lovely as the community saluted the Soles of Freedom marchers. Special speeches were delivered by students, community leaders, and the Mayor. On September 20th, TJC will once again join the mighty students of the Soles of Freedom march for the final rally in Atlanta.

Our show today will discuss the experiences of the students over these 5 days of marching and Canvassing in Black rural neighborhoods. This show will also look at how this march fits and differs from the tradition of student-led and Black activism. Barbara, Daryl, and their guests will also discuss the history of racial oppression in Spalding County and what are the threats for the 2022 Midterms. Of importance will be examining how these Soles of Freedom Marches counteract the rising voter suppression of SB 202.

These are the issues we will cover during this show.
