INTRODUCTION:

Hi Igniters For Change! The Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time, entitled “Racism, Sexism, and Misogynoir: The Major Stories the Mass Media Missed in 2024, Part 1”, will be live with Radio Show Co-Hosts and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders Attorneys Barbara Arnwine, Esq. and Daryl Jones, Esq. and will feature a special interview with Prof. Kimberlé Crenshaw, Esq. Following the results of the 2024 presidential elections, there has been much analysis and discussion about the reasons for the outcome and the negative consequences for civil rights and voting rights platformed in the incoming Trump Administration. Despite all of these many media stories, there has been a severe failure to cover the racism, sexism, and misogynoir that plagued this election. Without a proper analysis, our nation will continue to repeat the errors of the past. Our special guest Prof. Kimberlé Crenshaw, Esq. will help to examine the reasons for the media’s inability to properly diagnose the 2024 presidential election.

Prof. Kimberlé Crenshaw, Esq. is the Co-founder and Executive Director of the African American Policy Forum. On Tuesday, December 3rd at 7:00 PM Eastern Time, the African American Policy Forum is hosting a special post-election Under the Blacklight episode entitled “Views from the 92%, Black Women Reflect on the 2024 Election and the Road Ahead”. It will be available to watch on Zoom and YouTube. During today’s show, we will preview some of the expected major points of discussion for tonight’s program.

Speakers and co-sponsors will include:

  • Barbara Arnwine, President & Founder of the Transformative Justice Coalition
  • Fran Phillips-Calhoun, Atlanta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
  • Glynda Carr, President & CEO of Higher Heights

The second part of our show will feature updates on major anti-civil rights legislation pending in the House and the Senate. Radio Show Co-Hosts Arnwine and Jones will lead this discussion with invited guests. There have been major upheavals in the United States Congress and in the streets of our cities post the 2024 elections. Infamously, in the House of Representatives, the awful HR 8706 “Dismantle DEI Act of 2024”bill has been passed out of Committee and the equally reprehensible HR 9495 “The Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act”) has passed the House and is now pending in the Senate. These bills seek to cripple DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs and undermine the private non-profit sector. The Dismantle DEI Act was approved by the House Oversight Committee in a 23-17 vote on Wednesday, November 20th. Learn more: “’Squad’ member Rep. Pressley fumes over GOP’s anti-DEI bill: Keep MLK’s name ‘out of your mouths’”, FOX News, article written on November 24th 2024, https://www.foxnews.com/media/squad-member-rep-pressley-fumes-over-gops-anti-dei-bill-keep-mlks-name-out-your-mouths The Transformative Justice Coalition has joined our civil rights and nonprofit partners in opposing these horrific bills. We will discuss how, upon the return of the Senate on December 2nd, we can defeat these two threatening acts.

Sadly, racist incidents continue to proliferate in our country following the Election. The announcements of plans for deploying the U.S. military as part of the mass deportation onslaught continues to escalate fears throughout the country.

Lastly, we will discuss the programming that the Transformative Justice Coalition is constituting to address and de-escalate this rising hateful violence. On Monday, December 16th, 2024, TJC will sponsor its next National TeleTown Hall at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.

QUESTIONS:

Prof. Kimberlé Crenshaw, Esq.: 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM ET
[Giving Tuesday]

  • Kim, welcome back to Igniting Change. These have been some difficult weeks for many in our nation; but, they have been especially hard for Black women, many who had championed the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris. But probably more disappointing has been the media’s complete failure to discuss this loss through a racial, gender, intersectional lens. Please tell us what grade (A-F) you will give the media and what is your take on why the media has failed so badly.
  • There was a lot of purposeful propagation of misinformation and disinformation not only in the media but in popular discourse. How can that be better addressed in the future?
  • Although many people claimed to not believe that Harris was Black, ironically a number of historic negative tropes about Black women were deployed by her opponents to undermine her candidacy.  How do you mesh these contradictions?
  • Please describe tonight’s AAPF programming. How can people join the program? Who are some of the featured guests? What are some topics you hope will be covered during the program?
  • Let’s talk about ways that we can encourage more intersectional analysis by the media.
  • Going forward, what is your major hope that our nation will learn from the way Harris was and is still being treated by the media?
  • How can our listeners get involved? What are the next steps?
  • What are your one-minute final thoughts to our listeners?
  • Thank you for all of your hard work. How do our listeners get in contact with you?

12:30 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time
[Giving Tuesday]

  • Welcome everyone to our roundtable on the nefarious two bills pending before the U.S. House and Senate this week. Of all the things that the Congress could be focusing on, why have they raised to the forefront these two viscous laws, HR 8706 “Dismantle DEI Act of 2024” and HR 9495 “The Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act”?
  • Let’s describe for the public what these two bills are (as if you’re speaking to a 5th grader)?
  • How can people fight back? (The U.S. Senate Switchboard Number is 202-224-3121 & you’ll be connected to your senators’ office and ask for the email addresses.. If people have additional time, TJC urges you to email your senators re-iterating your opposition.)

[Daryl and Barbara will announce that on Monday, December 16th, 2024, TJC will sponsor a National TeleTown Hall at 7:00 PM Eastern Time]

  • President Joe Biden still has 7 weeks left in office. During that time, he has the power of the presidency to take action. What should he absolutely do? (nonpartisan; pardons, like for Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr. and Marilyn Mosby)
  • How can our listeners get involved? What are the next steps?
  • What are your one-minute final thoughts to our listeners?
  • Thank you for all of your hard work. How do our listeners get in contact with you?

[TJC will continue to vigorously defend the rights of all Americans and will fight the implementation of Project 2025 and our future shows will continue to cover any hate crimes and how we effectively protect ourselves while advancing our agenda for justice.]

[Daryl and Barbara may share their favorite books and encourage people to donate towards TJC’s giveaways of banned books.]
