INTRODUCTION:

​The Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time, entitled, “We Got Now! GenZ Voters Overcoming Voting Obstacles,” will be live with Radio Show Co-Hosts and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders Attorneys Barbara Arnwine, Esq. and Daryl Jones, Esq. and guests Clarence Adarian Fambro, Molly Duffie and Cameron Barnes.

This show will focus on challenges facing GenZ voters as they prepare for the 2024 Election Cycle.  The GenZ/Young Millennial Voters face a daunting task this election cycle.  In 2020 the under 35 years of age vote broke historically high records.  There was a slight decline in the GenZ/Young Millennial mid—year election in 2022, and some predict that the downward trend will continue.

With GenZ/Young Millennials being the most multi-cultural, multi-religious, diverse and accepting of differences in our country’s history, the question becomes what will drive GenZ/Young Millennial voters to the polls.  The GenZ/Young Millennial voters were credited in 2020 for saving Democracy by becoming political active in high numbers and voting.   

Today, the issues driving GenZ/Young Millennials to action have been access to reproductive freedom, racial justice in policing, racial hatred and white supremacy, Student Loan Debt Forgiveness and the raging and continuing war in Ukraine and the war killing thousands of GenZ/young Millennials and Gen Alphas in the Gaza strip.  All of these issues exists as some states restrict or remove polling places from college campuses, impose oppressive voter identification laws and enact confusing absentee voting policies to make it more difficult for young voters to vote.

Our guest today will discuss the challenges of young voters accessing polling places; issues of concern to the GenZ/Young Millennial voters; and strategies that they are taking to overcome these obstacles to voting presented to them and their peers.

Our guests will also discuss how the training that they received at the TJC GenZ/Young Millennial training assisted them in registering and encouraging their peers to participate in the political process and provide strategies on best practices to bring GenZ/Young Millennials voters to the poll to protect democacy…again!

QUESTIONS:

• For each of you, what do you think is the biggest political concern facing young voters today?
• Some colleges have had polling places on  their campuses removed or attempted to be removed.  If a student body is facing such a challenge, how should they deal with it?
• Despite the increase in Young voter turnout over the past decade, excepting a slight decline in 2022 midterm elections, political pundits are predicting that GenZ/Young Millennials won’t show up in numbers in 2024.  Why are they wrong?
• Do you believe that state legislatures banning books, restricting access to reproductive freedom and making it more difficult for young voters to access ballot boxes will have the opposite effect of having young voters rise up and vote?
• What impact will abortion access have on young going to the polls?
• Is the fight for equal access to voting an issue for your generation?
• What impact, if any, will the war in Ukraine and war in the Gaza strip have on young voter turn out?
• Florida has been a hotbed for suppression of diversity, equity and inclusion.  Your generation is the most diverse, inclusive and accepting of any American generation, what impact do you believe that the restrictive actions in Florida will have on young voters nationally?
• Banning books and the teaching of Black History were very prevalent in 2023. What, if any, implications of these acts do you believe we’ll see in the  2024 election cycle?
• In 2023, Transformative Justice Coalition was a major newsmaker of its own, with activities with the Florida Rolling Protest and the Kentucky and Ohio GOTV events. All of these campaigns, including TJC’s two 2023 Gen Z and Millennial Votes Matter Trainings, were designed to bring knowledge to communities and to activate voters. What do you think of what we did in 2023 and what will we need to do in 2024?
• What do you think is the most important grassroots organizing that you think needs to happen in order to ensure strong GenZ/Young Millennial voter engagement in the 2024 election cycle?
