INTRODUCTION:

Hi Igniters For Change! The Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, November 12th,  2024, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time, entitled “Election 2024 Outcomes and Consequences”,  will be live with Radio Show Co-Hosts and Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) Co-Leaders Attorneys Barbara Arnwine, Esq. and Daryl Jones, Esq. and will feature Prof. Ernest J. Quarles, Esq.; Carl Snowden; and, Dr. Karen McRae. This show will provide an overview of the Election 2024 outcomes and actions taken by TJC and its partners and perspectives on the future immediate consequences of the vote. We will examine losses, victories, and the future landscape for our nation’s democracy.

The show will start with expressions of gratitude and a full discussion of the November 5th Election Protection Command Centers operated by the Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC), the National Bar Association (NBA), and the Thurgood Marshall Center for Service and Heritage (TMCT). The three Command Centers were located in Atlanta, Georgia; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and, Washington, D.C., which hosted the National Command Center. Each of the Command Center locations covered different states. TJC is a member of the Election Protection Coalition (1-866-OUR-VOTE). These Command Centers focused on providing support to organizations working throughout the country to help voters on Election Day in a completely non-partisan way. The TJC-NBA-TMCT Command Centers were committed to helping all voters facing issues on Election Day and had both legal and law student volunteers that provided support in answering phone calls, monitoring social media, and fielding questions from organizations and voters. The Command Centers also filed over 90 reports that can then be used moving forward to report on Election Day occurrences and advocate for electoral change.

Co-hosts Arnwine and Jones and guest and National Command Center volunteer Dr. Karen Mcrae will discuss critical information about the election that has been overshadowed by the actual election results. Their findings will have profound implications for the future protection of elections.

The next part of the show will be a discussion by Arnwine and Jones of their perspectives of the results of the election, emphasizing major issues the media and public discourse has not appropriately focused upon.

Following this discussion, Arnwine and Jones will be joined by their other two guests Carl Snowden and other Command Center volunteer Prof. Ernest J. Quarles, Esq, to explore the consequences for African-Americans of the increased hate emboldened by the election of the next president. “Officials and universities in a growing number of U.S. states are condemning racist text messages that were sent to Black residents this week. The messages, which began appearing Wednesday, were received by people in at least 32 states and the District of Columbia, CBS News has found.” (Read more: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/officials-condemn-racist-texts-sent-to-black-residents-in-several-states/ar-AA1tHNnz?ocid=BingNewsSerp ) This discussion will unfold as we discuss a recent hate crime incident that happened last weekend in Anne Arundel County that has left a Black man hospitalized suffering from two mini-strokes. An African American man was in line at the Home Depot in Anne Arundel County waiting to purchase a pipe wrench to fix a plumbing problem at his home when a White man behind him came within very close proximity and started hovering over his backside. After trying to shake this intrusive presence, the African American man turned around and asked the White man to stop breathing on his neck, at which time the White man started calling him the [N-word] and stated that “[N-word], you don’t belong in front of no White man” and “[N-word], you need to be behind me!” In fact, the White man proceeded to yell “in fact, all [N-words] need to get to the back of the line and let White people go first.” Of course, as the 67-year old Black man, of short stature and slim, disputed and objected to his words, the White man, in his 40’s, tall, and husky, became even more aggressive. As the argument ensued, the intimidating White man yelled “I can’t wait until January 20th when we’ll put all you [N-words] in your places!” As the White man made a threatening move towards the Black man, the Black man held up the pipe wrench in his hand and warned him not to try to physically assault him. The cashier, seeing this encounter and hearing this commotion, pushed the panic button. The police arrived, one White and one Black officer. The White officer immediately went to the White man and asked him for his account of what had happened. The White man lied and said that the Black man had threatened him and that he feared for his life, upon which the White officer went over to the Black man and told him to put his hands behind his back and started cuffing him. Fortunately, the cashier who had witnessed the hate crime and sounded the alarm told the police officer to stop, and that he was arresting the wrong person. When the White police officer resisted, the cashier insisted that officers watch the actual tape of the incident. After watching the tape, the White police officer told both the Black man and the White man that they could both go home. The Black officer tried to deescalate the tensions in the store. The Black man, very upset, drove himself home, and – still upset about this double attack- proceeded to suffer two mini-strokes from the stress and is now hospitalized. TJC sees this racist hate crime as a predictive indicator of an increase resulting from the White Supremacist extremist elements of the MAGA Movement.

This public unlawfulness is encouraged not only by White Supremacists in the MAGA Movement, but also the Trump leadership has also contributed to this enhanced aggression, such as “a Donald Trump Attorney General hopeful threatened Letitia James with prison after the Republican won the 2024 US presidential election. Mike Davis, a former Supreme Court clerk and Senate aide, said: ‘I dare you to continue your lawfare against President Trump in his second term. Because listen here sweetheart, we’re not messing around this time. And we will put your fat ass in prison for conspiracy against rights.’ The Republican lawyer has previously said he wants to drag Democrats’ ‘dead political bodies’ through the streets and ‘burn’ them in a graphic social media post.” Watch the video and see the source here: https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/news/donald-trump-ag-letitia-james-b2644045.html

  • Karen, what was it like to be at the National Command Center? What did you learn from being there and hearing the complaints?
  • Ernie, what was it like to be at the Atlanta Command Center? What did you learn from being there and hearing the complaints?

12:25 PM

  • Post-election, what has been your most prominent thought about the outcome? (non-partisan!)
  • Were the polls wrong (again)?
  • Why do you think 10 million people who voted for Biden stayed at home?

12:35 PM

  • Immediately after the election, African-Americans were beset by these racist texts. In addition, there have been reported individual incidences of more “Karen” and other behaviors, accelerated by those such as Mike Davis and the “Your Body, My Choice” posts and the increased harassment of women and especially women of color activists.
  • Carl and Daryl, please describe the hate crime that took place in Anne Arundel County.
  • What should we do in anticipation of more of this wave of racist threats, intimidation, harassment, and violence?
  • Karen  in light of the fact that so many African-American Harris supporters are grieving the loss, how do we best attend to peoples’ sadness and at the same time prepare them to be effective against these threats?
  • How are people fighting back?
  • How can our listeners get involved? What are the next steps?
  • What are your one-minute final thoughts to our listeners?
  • Thank you for all of your hard work. How do our listeners get in contact with you?

[TJC will continue to vigorously defend the rights of all Americans and will fight the implementation of Project 2025 and our future shows will continue to cover these hate crimes and how we effectively protect ourselves while advancing our agenda for justice.]
