The Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC), the Phoenix Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Empowering Arizona, and the Zion Institute are inviting the Phoenix Community to join them for a Full Court Press Community Fair at “The Well” on Saturday, April 6th from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM at the Zion Institute, 1522 E. Southern Ave, Phoenix, AZ. This Community Fair will coincide with two major events: the HBCU All Stars Weekend and TJC’s Gen Z and Millennial Voting Rights Leadership Training.

Today's show will focus on the issue of the naming of monuments and structures after slaveholders and racist Americans, that if funded by public taxpayer money. Maryland holds the fourth highest percentage of African American citizens in America. It is the only state in America with an African American Governor. Maryland also boasts an African American women as the Speaker of the House. Yet Maryland taxpayers have supported the naming of monuments after people who stood for slavery and against the advancement and inclusion of African Americans.

After the update, this show will recap the rally held before the Supreme Court of the United States on April 23rd as the Court heard oral arguments in the City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson.
This week's show cover the important topics of the African American Policy Forum’s upcoming May 3rd National Day of Action and The Freedom To Learn movement and the relationship between this fight against book banning and the banning of teaching of African-American history and culture and its relevance to the 2024 elections.

The Freedom To Learn NYC rally will take place at 4pm ET at Reverend T. Wendell Foster Recreation Center, 1020 Jerome Ave, Bronx, NY 10452 with speakers from city and state government, as well as leading civil and human rights organizations. In addition, an artist will perform an excerpt from Amanda Gorman’s book, The Hill We Climb. The Foster Recreation Center is home to SCAN-Harbor, a non-profit youth and family service center providing programming for families in Harlem, East Harlem, and the South Bronx under the leadership of executive director Lewis Zuchman, an original Freedom Rider. The event includes a banned book giveaway and speeches from Jumaane D. Williams, public advocate; Ashley Sharpton, NAN Youth Huddle; Dr. Canton Chloe; assembly Member Chantel Jackson, and more leaders.

Today's show will also discuss the highly disturbing actions of Texas Governor Greg Abbott who, on May 16th “pardoned a man convicted of killing a Black Lives Matter protester in the summer of 2020. Daniel Perry was serving a 25-year prison sentence for the murder of Garrett Foster, an armed white man who was attending a racial justice protest with his Black fiancee. Abbott had faced pressure to issue the pardon from conservative media figures. Stephanie Sy reports.
