Today’s show will review the recent Gen Z and Millennial Votes Matter Leadership Training, held September 20th - 24th in Washington, D.C. during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference.
This week’s show focuses on a disturbing story of extrajudicial punishment by police of the Baton Rouge Police Department who tortured, tased, strip searched, and sexually abused arrestees. Igniting Change guest, Jessica Hawkins, Esq., is a co-counsel for two of the plaintiffs suing the police department for their treatment heading to and at this blacksite.
The focus of the show is going to be on “Defending the Power of the Vote: Ohio Early Voting and Supreme Court of the United States’ Argument in South Carolina Redistricting Case”. Igniting Change is blessed to have three special guests who are experts on community organizing for early voting in Ohio, Ohio ballot issue # 1 on reproductive rights, and the upcoming Supreme Court argument in the Alexander v. South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP case.
This week’s Igniting Change focus really speaks to the challenges of our time in combatting voter disenfranchisement! Imagine, the last Kentucky gubernatorial election was decided by 50,000 votes; yet, 140,000+ newly eligible formerly incarcerated persons in Kentucky are largely unaware that they can register and vote.
The Igniting Change Radio Show on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023, from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Eastern Time, entitled, “Rolling Out The Vote for the November 7th Elections in Kentucky and Ohio!”
As TJC plans to take the John Lewis bus on the road to GOTV with our partners in Kentucky and Ohio, Nov 2nd - 7th, this week’s Igniting Change will continue last week’s focus on the specific issues and challenges confronting voters in these two states.
