Michael A. Brown, CPA

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Chielf Financial Officer (CFO), Transformative Justice Coalition

Michael Brown joined Transformative Justice Coalition at its inception, bringing more than 25 years of finance, accounting, and audit experience in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

Prior to TJC, Mr. Brown served as Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, providing leadership and directing all accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, and grant budgeting.  He also represented the organization in dealings with federal grant officials, external auditors, and financial institutions.

He previously served as Principal in Charge of the State of Maryland’s $27 billion audit for Abrams, Foster, Nole & Williams — one of Maryland’s largest minority-owned public accounting firms and the first to secure this significant audit contract.  Mr. Brown ensured the on-time and on-budget completion of all audit requirements for five (5) consecutive years.

Mr. Brown was also the Chief Financial Officer of the Northern Virginia Urban League where he restored financial integrity and credibility by implementing/maintaining internal control processes and financial reporting compliance.  The organization received unqualified opinions from independent auditors throughout his tenure.

His additional experience includes serving as Vice President of Finance for an international architectural/engineering firm with major projects around the world, and CFO of a housing finance agency that issued more than $350 million in mortgage revenue bonds for affordable housing.

Mr. Brown earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Baltimore and his master’s degree in finance and administration from Bowie State University.  He is a certified public accountant (CPA), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and a member of AICPA.
